Lille Ruth Nance, born on February 19, 1934, in a small town in eastern North Carolina, at an early age, her passions for sharing God’s love, teaching and inspiring young people were apparent.

As a graduate of Shaw University (Raleigh, NC) and North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC), she obtained a Masters in Education and fostered a highly recognized career in Elementary education in Craven and Mecklenburg counties.

To her daughter, she left a legacy of having a strong work ethic, loving people authentically, and keeping God first.

This organization exists to carry out the lessons Lillie Ruth shared with her daughter during their 14 years together.

Mission:  To honor the life of Lille Ruth Nance through supporting young educators and empowering women.

Organizational Goals

  1. Provide financial support via grant funding to first-year teachers who have graduated from a Historically Black College or University.
    • Two awards given annually: Feb. 19 and Sept. 6
  2. Provide life management and development to women and young ladies from age 8 through remainder of life. Programs include, but are not limited to:
    • Life Skills Training
    • Character Development
    • Career Training
    • Leadership Development
    • Parenting Skills
    • Maternal Relationships and Support
